Turkey may join the demining of the Strait of Hormuz

Turkey may join the demining of the Strait of Hormuz

Turkey has stated that it may join efforts to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz following a potential agreement between the U.S. and Iran. Officials in Ankara say they are ready to participate in an international mission, but only under clear conditions. If the situation escalates into a new conflict, they will reconsider their position. This was reported by Reuters.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that his country could join the demining of the Strait of Hormuz. This refers to a potential mission that could emerge following agreements between Iran and the US.

According to him, following a potential agreement, an international technical team could be established in the region. This team would be responsible for clearing the strait of mines. Turkey, as the minister noted, is in principle not opposed to joining such a process. “We view such initiatives positively as a humanitarian duty,” Fidan said.

At the same time, Ankara is not giving its unconditional consent. Participation will depend on the specifics of the mission and whether it escalates into a new military conflict. “Turkey will have no problem participating under the right conditions,” the minister added, clarifying that their position could change in the event of an escalation.

Separately, Fidan also touched on the broader context. He expressed hope that the issue of Iran’s nuclear program could be resolved during the next round of negotiations. It is expected that these talks may take place in Pakistan.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the key routes for global oil supplies, so any risks there immediately affect global security and the economy. That is why the issue of its demining is now coming to the forefront again.

Trump stated that there is no timeline for ending the war with Iran

Prior to this, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran has repeatedly violated the ceasefire since it was established between Washington and Tehran. According to Trump, there have been numerous incidents that cast doubt on Iran’s compliance with the ceasefire agreements.

Trumpexpressed his willingness to meet personally with Iran’s new leadership.

US President Donald Trump also announced progress in negotiations with Iran, under which Washington would allegedly receive all of Tehran’s enriched uranium without any financial payments.

Additionally, Israel agreed to a 10-day ceasefire with Lebanon and announced the start of a move toward a diplomatic settlement; however, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the war against Hezbollah is not yet over and military operations will continue.
