Turkey launched a drone equipped with electronic warfare systems from a ship for the first time

Turkey launched a drone equipped with electronic warfare systems from a ship for the first time

Turkey has deployed the Bayraktar TB3 maritime drone, equipped with electronic warfare systems, for the first time for reconnaissance and electronic warfare missions. The drone took off from the TCG Anadolu and operated with modules capable of detecting and jamming radars. This is seen as a new stage in the development of maritime drone technology.

During the exercises, the Bayraktar TB3 SİHA flew using specialized ANTIDOT containers developed by ASELSAN. The ANTIDOT 2-U/ES 100 system is designed for electronic support, i.e., detecting and tracking enemy radar systems, while the ANTIDOT 2-U/EA 200 performs more active functions—it generates jamming signals and suppresses enemy signals.

In essence, this combines reconnaissance and electronic warfare within a single unmanned platform, allowing the drone not only to “see” the enemy’s electromagnetic field but also to influence it. The article notes that previously, such tasks were primarily carried out by manned naval aircraft or specialized helicopters, which require a crew and pose higher risks during combat missions.

It is specifically noted that the TB3’s new configuration allows for extended flight times thanks to relatively lightweight containers, which increases the range and duration of operations. In the future, such systems could be used not only for maritime purposes but also for reconnaissance and striking targets on the coast, on islands, and in other strategic areas.

TRT Haber also notes that among NATO countries, only a limited number of states have similar solutions where electronic support and electronic warfare systems are integrated directly into unmanned platforms, especially those launched from ships. According to experts, this opens up a new direction in the development of naval combat technologies, in which unmanned aerial vehicles are gradually taking on capabilities previously available only to large manned platforms. This is discussed in a TRT Haber report following the exercises.

The Turkish company Türkiye Rail System Vehicles Industry Inc. (TÜRASAŞ) has successfully developed a new DE 10000 diesel-electric shunting locomotive, designed entirely at its own production facility. Tanzania became the first foreign buyer of this railway equipment.
