Pakistan Has Stated the Condition for Starting a New War with India

Pakistan is threatening to go to war with India if India violates the treaty on the shared use of the Indus River and restricts access to drinking water for a significant portion of the Pakistani population.

The Islamic Republic’s Minister of Defense, Khawaja Mohammad Asif, emphasized that water resources are part of the country’s national security, and therefore Islamabad will launch military operations if water is used as a weapon.

These strong statements were prompted by New Delhi’s announcement of a unilateral suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, for which Indian authorities blamed Pakistan. Under this historic agreement, Pakistan received nearly 80% of the water from the Indus River basin, which supplied water to about one-third of the neighboring country’s population and its agricultural sector. The defense minister has now emphasized that Pakistan will respond militarily without hesitation if evidence emerges of a deliberate and rapid disruption of the water supply by India.

This was reported by NDTV.

As a reminder, on the night of May 7, 2025, India launched strikes against Pakistan. The attack resulted in casualties, and Pakistan has launched retaliatory actions.
