Turkish F-16s have again violated Greek airspace

UA NEWS 26 May 2026 10:37
Turkish F-16s have again violated Greek airspace

After a long hiatus, Turkish fighter jets have once again violated Greek airspace. One of the incidents culminated in a simulated dogfight between two Greek and two Turkish F-16s near the islands of Lemnos and Lesbos.

This was reported by Ekathimerini.

This skirmish was the third of its kind since the beginning of 2026. Previous incidents were recorded on March 26 and May 12, following a previous skirmish in December 2025.

Prior to this recent series of skirmishes, the last simulated dogfights took place in February 2023, before the earthquakes in southeastern Turkey and the onset of a calmer period in the Aegean Sea.

Greek authorities stated that 10 airspace violations were recorded on Monday. At the time, no military exercises were underway in the broader northeastern Aegean region, as the EFES 2026 exercises had concluded on May 22.

Officials in Athens were monitoring whether the latest incident marked a return to Turkey’s previous tactics or was an isolated display of tension.
