Turkish Airlines is drastically reducing the number of flights from Russia in May and June

Turkish Airlines is drastically reducing the number of flights from Russia in May and June

Turkish Airlines has canceled more than 300 flights to Russian destinations and is gradually suspending service on 18 international routes. This decision is due to the complex international situation, rising fuel prices, and declining demand from European countries.

Baza reports this, noting that the situation could lead to a shortage of airline tickets and higher tour prices.

Tourists who have already purchased tickets for flights on the Turkish flag carrier are being massively rebooked onto Southwind Airlines charter flights. Although no additional fee is required for this change, the flight conditions differ significantly: the cabins are less comfortable, meals are not provided, and the flight schedule is unstable. Travel industry representatives confirm that travelers have already begun to feel the effects of these cuts.

Market experts predict further restrictions on air service between Russia and Turkey due to logistical and political challenges. The reduced presence of premium carriers is forcing operators to shift their focus to low-cost carriers and charter programs. This is leading to a decline in service for passengers amid a general increase in the cost of vacations during the 2026 summer season.

On April 16, Fatih Birol, head of the International Energy Agency, stated that Europe has only six weeks’ worth of jet fuel reserves remaining.

European airlines, including Lufthansa, Air France, and British Airways, have appealed to authorities to lower taxes, provide incentives, and allow the use of Jet A fuel due to the emergency situation in the Middle East. This is important because the conflict is significantly impacting their operations and leading to higher fares.
