The Russian tax service has initiated bankruptcy proceedings against Vasily Potanin, the son of billionaire and Norilsk Nickel CEO Vladimir Potanin. The reason is a debt of approximately one million rubles.

The petition was filed on April 20, 2026, with the Moscow Arbitration Court. A hearing is scheduled for June 25, during which the court will review the validity of the claims. Currently, Vasily Potanin Jr.’s accounts have already been frozen, and the exact amount of the debt is not specified in the case materials.
Vasily Potanin was born in 1998 and is one of the businessman’s children from two marriages. His parents’ divorce in 2014 was accompanied by lengthy legal proceedings regarding the division of property in Russia and abroad.
It is also reported that during family disputes in his teenage years, he was unable to study abroad due to a ban initiated by his father.
The Russian tax authorities have begun searching for citizens’ foreignaccounts using AI.
