Tusk calls for maintaining transatlantic unity following the cancellation of the U.S. troop rotation to Poland
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the importance of unity between the U.S. and Europe following Washington’s decision not to deploy approximately 4,000 American troops to Poland. He stressed that joint action on both sides of the Atlantic remains crucial for the region’s security.
He made these remarks at a press conference, according to Reuters.
Tusk stated that relations between Europe and the U.S. must weather the current “difficult times,” emphasizing the importance of Warsaw’s ties with Washington after the Pentagon canceled plans to deploy troops in Poland.
“The task for all of us here in Poland, in Europe, across the Atlantic, in the U.S., and in Canada is to ensure that transatlantic cooperation, regardless of various political variables, survives this difficult period,” the Polish prime minister said.
After the Pentagon suspended the deployment of 4,000 U.S. troops to Poland, Tusk’s government publicly sought to reassure citizens that the cancellation of the plans did not mean that NATO was under threat.
"You have a friend here... you have your most loyal ally. It is worth remembering this, because America will not find a better ally anywhere," Tusk said, addressing the U.S.
