Berlin will ban the display of symbols of Russian aggression on May 8 and 9

Berlin will ban the display of symbols of Russian aggression on May 8 and 9

Police in the German capital have imposed a strict ban on the display of Russian, Belarusian, and Soviet flags, as well as symbols glorifying Russia’s war against Ukraine. The restrictions apply to military uniforms, the letters “Z” and “V,” “St. George’s ribbons,” and portraits of the leaders of Russia, Belarus, and Chechnya.

This was reported by the German publication Berliner Morgenpost.

Law enforcement officials noted that in the fifth year of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the ban also extends to the performance of Russian military marches and songs. It is prohibited to use maps where the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine are marked as part of Russia, as well as flags of self-proclaimed quasi-republics. At the same time, following appeals from Ukrainian communities, Ukrainian symbols remain permitted for use during events.

Partial exceptions to the rules have been made only for diplomats and World War II veterans; however, overall monitoring of compliance with the regulations will be strengthened. The Berlin Police emphasize that these measures are aimed at preventing conflicts and preventing the justification of Russian aggression in public spaces. Violations of the established restrictions are subject to liability under local public order laws.

In 2025, Berlin also passed a resolution imposing a complete ban on Russian symbols during events commemorating the anniversary of the end of World War II.

We have also previously reported that most Germans are most concerned about the decline of democracy in the country and the outbreak of World War III.
