A suspect accused of spying for Russia has been arrested in Berlin

A Kazakhstani citizen has been detained in Germany on suspicion of collaborating with Russian intelligence agencies and passing on information about military aid to Ukraine.

This was reported by the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, the suspect, identified as Sergei K., was detained on April 28 in Berlin. Law enforcement officials also conducted searches at his residence and another location.

Investigators believe that the man has been in contact with Russian intelligence since at least May 2025 and has been passing on various types of information.

Specifically, this includes data on Germany’s military support for Ukraine, as well as the German defense industry, including companies that develop drones and robotic systems.

In addition, he photographed public buildings in Berlin and military convoys on highways, particularly those belonging to NATO countries. According to the prosecutor’s office, the suspect also attempted to recruit others into sabotage and intelligence activities.

The court is expected to decide on a preventive measure for him in the near future.

Germany recently transferred three cogeneration plants to Ukraine for the Chernihiv region, which are intended to ensure a stable supply of heat and electricity. This equipment will be able to meet the needs of tens of thousands of residents and the city’s critical infrastructure.

Germany is expanding its military exchange program and actively involving Ukrainian instructors with real combat experience in the training of Bundeswehr units to adapt its army to the conditions of modern warfare. Ukrainian military personnel are already working at key training schools and sharing the practical skills they gained on the front lines.
