Hundreds of people protested in Bosnia over the closure of a steel plant — Reuters

In the Bosnian city of Zenica, hundreds of workers took to the streets to protest the closure of a steel mill.

This was reported by Reuters.

The plant, which has a history spanning more than 130 years, ceased operations last week. Protesters believe this decision threatens thousands of jobs and signals the decline of heavy industry in the country.

During the march, participants carried union flags, blew whistles, and demanded that the plant resume operations.

According to representatives of the company that owns the plant, the production shutdown is due to logistical difficulties, cheap steel imports, and a lack of government support.

Meanwhile, the government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has stated its readiness to consider the possibility of acquiring the enterprise and resuming its operations.

Employees of the German airline Lufthansa will continue their strike on Thursday and Friday, leading to further widespread flight cancellations.
