About 400 people were detained during May Day protests in Istanbul

 

Police detained nearly 400 people in Istanbul during May Day demonstrations.

This was reported by Euronews.

Law enforcement officers used tear gas and special equipment to disperse the protesters.

Some participants tried to reach Taksim Square—a symbolic site of protests in the city—but all access routes were blocked by barricades and reinforced police forces.

Among those detained is trade union activist Basharan Aksu, who was arrested after speaking out against restrictions on access to the square.
