In Brazil, a hacker breached the public alert system — Reuters
Brazilian authorities officially suspect that a massive cyberattack was the main cause of the unauthorized emergency alert that was sent en masse to citizens’ cell phones in several regions of the country early Saturday.
The attackers managed to gain remote access to a government security platform.
In a statement, Brazil’s National Secretariat for Protection and Civil Defense reported that “the country’s public alert system was shut down at approximately 1:30 a.m. on June 20, local time, after users in several states received a message containing the word ‘misanthropy’—that is, hatred of humanity.”
Immediately after the breach was detected, experts completely deactivated the network.
