The UK has commented on rumors of Starmer's possible resignation — Sky News

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will remain in office at least until the start of the summer parliamentary recess, despite media rumors of a possible change in the Labour Party leadership.

This was reported by Sky News.

British Culture Minister Lisa Nandy made the statement. According to Nandy, numerous press reports about the intentions of other officials, including Wes Streeting, Andy Burnham, or Angela Rayner, to challenge the current prime minister are “hot air and nonsense.”

She emphasized that the Cabinet is calling for unity to fulfill promises made to voters.

“I have spoken with the Prime Minister several times over the past week, and he has made it clear to the Cabinet that if people want to challenge him, there is a procedure for that. There is a way to launch a leadership contest, become the leader of the Labour Party, and succeed him. No one has done that yet,” the minister emphasized.

She also added that constant changes in political leadership only harm the country, as the government’s work effectively grinds to a halt during internal disputes.

At the same time, Nandi noted that the decision on whether to continue the fight for the position will ultimately depend on Starmer himself, the MPs, and the British people.

Prior to this, the former British minister had declared his readiness to replace Starmer.

Earlier, Starmer noted growing tensions in relations with the U.S.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during which they discussed increasing pressure on the aggressor. The leaders paid special attention to the fight against the Russian shadow fleet and London’s contributions to the PURL program to strengthen the Ukrainian army.
