In Britain, large donations to the Reform UK party are under investigation – The Guardian
British police are investigating the legality of donations totaling 500,000 pounds sterling made to the right-wing populist party Reform UK. According to media reports, the funds came from the mother of a convicted fraudster who is an associate of the party’s leader, Nigel Farage.
British police stated that they are investigating potential violations of laws governing donations to political parties, which may include concealing the source of funding or providing false information about it.
“The investigation began in February 2025 after the Electoral Commission referred the matter to the Metropolitan Police regarding donations made to the political party ahead of the 2024 general election in the United Kingdom,” said a London police spokesperson.
Two people were questioned in connection with the case, but no arrests were made, law enforcement officials said, without naming names.
The case involves two donations totaling 250,000 pounds made by Fiona Cottrell, whose son George frequently accompanied Reform UK leader Nigel Farage to events. The donations are being investigated to determine whether they were intended to conceal an ineligible donor.
Cottrell himself, a longtime political ally of Farage, was jailed in the U.S. in 2017 after pleading guilty to wire fraud and now works in the cryptocurrency sector.
Nigel Farage, leader of the far-right, pro-Russian Reform UK party, is facing increased pressure from Parliament as part of a new investigation into ethical conduct. According to The Sunday Times, a year before the 2024 general election, he allegedly received support from Cotrall but failed to declare it in accordance with parliamentary rules.
This was reported by The Guardian.
Prior to this, Britain sent a new shipment of fire trucks to Ukraine.
Earlier, Slovakia donated a shipment of modern medical equipment worth over 340,000 euros to Ukraine, which was received by hospitals in Vinnytsia and Kyiv. Officials in Bratislava emphasize that this is part of systematic humanitarian support during the war and an investment in the development of Ukrainian medicine.
