Train service is being reduced in Britain due to extreme heat

Train service is being reduced in Britain due to extreme heat

Due to abnormally high temperatures in the United Kingdom this week, the number of train services is being reduced, and citizens are advised to avoid travel if possible.

The industry warns that the heat could cause overhead wires to sag, rails to warp, and fires near the tracks. As a result, a number of rail operators have already reduced the number of trains or canceled some routes.

In particular, Avanti West Coast is reducing service through Thursday and allowing passengers to transfer to earlier trains free of charge. Chiltern Railways has canceled more than half of its trains for the next three days, and Great Western Railway has urged passengers to avoid non-essential travel.

Network Rail will also restrict traffic on its lines through the end of the week to reduce the risk of accidents and technical malfunctions caused by the heat.

France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and other countries in Southern and Western Europe are experiencing one of the most intense heat waves on record.

On Monday, 845 schools and colleges in France will temporarily close due to the extreme heat. Another 1,800 or so educational institutions will shorten the school day and send students home early.
