Nearly 147,000 people displaced in Yemen in 18 days of September — Anadolu Agency
In Yemen, 146,943 people from 21,583 families were displaced between September 1 and 18 due to the deteriorating security situation. This was reported by the government’s Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps, Anadolu Agency reports.
Most displaced people arrived in Taiz
Displacement was recorded in eight provinces: Taiz and Lahj in the southwest, Aden, Abyan and Shabwa in the south, Al Hudaydah in the west, as well as Hadramout and Al Mahrah in the east of the country.
The largest number of displaced people arrived in Taiz — 11,534 families, or 80,792 people, across 15 districts. In Lahj, the arrival of 5,472 families, or 38,304 people, was recorded in nine districts.
A total of 1,622 families, or 7,162 people, arrived in Aden; most of them were taken in by local families in several districts. In the Hays and Al Khawkhah districts of Al Hudaydah province, 1,471 families, or 10,297 people, were displaced. Abyan received 1,278 families, or 8,946 people.

Call for urgent assistance
The government unit also recorded 110 displaced families in Hadramout, 70 in Al Mahrah and 26 in Shabwa. It called on international and local organizations to provide displaced people with urgent life-saving assistance. It warned that delays in response could deepen the crisis and increase the burden on communities hosting displaced people.
The rise in the number of displaced people comes amid military escalation on Yemen’s western coast and in areas of Taiz province. According to the agency, the Houthis advanced there and took control of positions previously held by government forces.
Fighting also resumed on several fronts in Taiz, Marib and Al Jawf in the north, as well as in Al Bayda in the central part of the country. According to Anadolu Agency, the escalation began in early July and intensified in September.
