The EU is considering extending temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2028
On July 15, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the European Union (Coreper) will consider extending the directive on temporary protection for Ukrainians who have fled the war for another year—until March 4, 2028.
According to EU diplomats and officials, the goal of the meeting is to reach an agreement in principle on this decision.
If no member state raises any substantial objections, once the technical preparations are complete, the amendments to the directive will be resubmitted to Coreper for final approval without debate.
The European Commission proposed extending temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 4, 2028, at the end of June. At the same time, the proposal provides for an exception for individuals who left Ukraine to avoid military service.
