The EU has expressed hope that the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will hold
The European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, expressed hope that the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which was achieved through U.S. diplomatic mediation, would hold for the long term.
She emphasized that this agreement creates a unique new opportunity to finally halt hostilities in the region and restore stability.
The Brussels representative stressed the importance of continuing direct dialogue between the two countries without additional demands from radical groups.
“The EU believes that Israel and Lebanon will continue direct, constructive negotiations. We call on all parties to fully comply with the terms of the agreements and to reject additional conditions from Hezbollah. All hostilities must cease immediately. Hezbollah must withdraw from the South Litani sector. The EU also calls on Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory,” the EU’s top diplomat stated.
The European Union plans to actively participate in the peace process and support the official Lebanese authorities.
According to Kallas, the European community is ready to fully facilitate the practical implementation of all points of the Lebanese-Israeli agreements.
The EU is paying particular attention to the use of international legal mechanisms designed to ensure lasting peace and the safety of civilians on both sides of the border.
Trump claimed he saved Israel from destruction
As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval rating among Americans has dropped to nearly its lowest point since his return to the White House.
At the same time, Trump once again repeated the threats he has been making in recent weeks: “If they agree, it’s over; if not, we’ll bomb them.”
Official Tehran refused to participate in the second round of peace talks with the United States, which were to take place in Islamabad.
