Production of dual-use chemical products has declined in Russia

Production of dual-use chemical products has declined in Russia

Production volumes of dual-use chemical products in Russia have dropped significantly. The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine stated that this is a result of Ukrainian long-range strikes on Russia’s industrial infrastructure.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

“Amid the severe gasoline crisis in Russia, there has been a significant drop in the production of dual-use chemical products. This is also a consequence of Ukrainian long-range strikes,” the Center noted.

According to Rosstat, compared to the same period last year, ammonium nitrate production in Russia fell by 9%. In May alone, the decline was 14% year-over-year, marking the worst figure since the beginning of 2026.

The Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized that ammonium nitrate is a dual-use product. It is used not only as a fertilizer for the agricultural sector but can also be used to meet the needs of the Russian military-industrial complex.

The Center noted that Russian authorities attribute the drop in production to “unscheduled maintenance.” “Officially, the Russian Federation attributes the collapse in fertilizer production to ‘unscheduled repairs’—a euphemism used by Russian propaganda to describe the consequences of Ukrainian strikes. It is known that the Azot chemical plant in the Tula region—one of the largest producers of chemical products for the Russian military-industrial complex—was recently targeted,” the Center reported.

The agency noted that official Russian statistics confirm the real impact of Ukrainian strikes on the aggressor country’s industrial infrastructure.

“The decline in chemical production in the Russian Federation is further evidence of the effectiveness of Ukrainian long-range strikes. And although Russian propagandists are trying to pretend that Ukrainian UAVs are not causing significant damage, even official statistics show the exact opposite,” the Center emphasized.

According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, the reduction in dual-use production could affect not only Russia’s agricultural sector but also the supply of necessary raw materials to defense industry enterprises.

As a reminder, seven people were killed as a result of a massive strike on Kyiv.

Earlier, Zelenskyy warned that Russia was preparing a new massive strike.

It should also be recalled that the Russians last launched a massive attack on Ukraine on the night of July 2. At that time, Russian forces launched 496 UAVs of various types and 74 missiles—air-, ground-, and sea-based—of various types at Ukraine.
