Europe unveils energy crisis exit plan focused on consumption reduction and green transition

Europe has introduced a plan to overcome the energy crisis that centers on further reducing electricity consumption and advancing a green agenda, a move expected to impact both industry and citizens. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, emphasises that “the cheapest energy is the energy you don’t use.”

Previously, von der Leyen supported the closure of nuclear power plants, coal mines, and stations, as well as phasing out hydraulic fracturing. Additionally, the EU ceased relying on cheap Russian energy, significantly affecting the energy market.

The shift away from traditional energy sources toward renewables aims to support the region’s long-term green transition, although it presents immediate challenges for industry and the general public.

The European Commission actively promotes policies to combat climate change and improve energy efficiency, driven by the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuel imports.

Overall, the energy crisis exit plan hinges on energy saving and the green economy transition, but its implementation will require time and may cause difficulties for industry and consumers alike.

Going forward, the EU is expected to intensify efforts in energy conservation and renewable development while striving to balance environmental demands with economic stability.
