Europe is investigating a possible Iranian link to attacks on Jewish targets — WSJ

European law enforcement agencies are investigating Iran’s possible involvement in a series of attacks on Jewish schools, synagogues, and companies with ties to Israel.

The Wall Street Journal reports this, citing sources.

Since the start of the war in the Middle East, nearly two dozen attacks on Jewish targets have been recorded or prevented in Western Europe.

Investigators believe the perpetrators may have been recruited online, and a fictitious group was created as a cover to claim responsibility for the attacks. Videos of the attacks were actively shared on pro-Iranian social media, and in some cases, they were announced in advance.

In particular, an explosion occurred near a synagogue in Liège, Belgium, in March, followed by attacks on sites in the Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, including arson and the use of Molotov cocktails.

According to intelligence reports, this group had not previously been on their radar. Signs of its fictitious nature include errors in propaganda materials and claims of attacks that never actually took place.

Experts note that the use of a fictitious entity allows Iran to deny its involvement in such actions.

Prior to this, Iran carried out a missile attack on a major power plant in Israel, though no damage was inflicted on infrastructure or people.

Recall that the Bushehr nuclear power plant became a target of an attack, raising serious concerns about radiation safety in the Persian Gulf region.

As a reminder, the U.S. and Iran may hold talks on ending the war on March 26.

Iran has also announced “surprises” for the U.S. and Israel in the coming days.
