32-year-old emu found in Finland after a week on the run — YLE News
A 32-year-old emu named Herra Hoo, which escaped a week ago, has been found in Mäntyharju, Finland. The bird was discovered under a tree in a forest on Saturday afternoon and returned to its home enclosure, YLE News reports.
Search for the emu
Heidi Haajanen, an entrepreneur at Kuvalan tila, said that people had reported sightings of the emu over several days. A drone was also used to search for the bird, which had escaped the previous week.
On Saturday, a group of people helped lead the emu out of the forest to the roadside. A video filmed when the bird was found shows it trying to break free from the hands of Janne Haajanen, another entrepreneur at Kuvalan tila. In the recording, the man calms the emu.

Return home
The emu was taken home in a large box and returned to its enclosure. According to Heidi Haajanen, the bird was given salad after returning.
During its escape, Herra Hoo survived partly by eating berries. Haajanen noted that emus usually live for around 30 years, so she was surprised that the 32-year-old bird was found after a week away from home.
