Florida has introduced a simplified procedure for designating organizations as terrorist groups — Reuters

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a controversial bill granting state authorities unprecedented powers to regulate civic and student organizations.

This was reported by Reuters.

The new law allows officials to designate any organization as a “terrorist organization” at their own discretion, effectively bypassing traditional legal vetting procedures.

Under the provisions of the bill, the state’s director of homeland security, the governor, and the cabinet now have the authority to unilaterally designate an organization as terrorist if they deem it involved in “extremist activities.”

Following such a decision, the organization may be forcibly dissolved, and its financial assets and government funding immediately frozen.

Particularly harsh measures are envisaged for the education sector.

Students who, in the authorities’ view, “promoted a domestic or foreign terrorist organization” must be immediately expelled from educational institutions without the right to appeal within the university system.

Republican DeSantis, who signed the law on Monday, April 6, continues a policy of harsh administrative pressure on opposition movements.

It is worth noting that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump and some Republican-controlled states have already taken a series of measures against pro-Palestinian and left-wing groups, classifying them as anti-American.

As a reminder, there are calls in the U.S. to impeach Hagset over the war with Iran.

Earlier, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hagset stated during a briefing that U.S. forces had achieved significant successes as part of Operation “Epic Fury” against Iran and announced new waves of strikes.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hagset has shifted his approach to military operations, moving away from traditional rhetoric of defense and security and focusing on retaliation.
