A young man suspected of being behind four arson attacks in a forest has been arrested in France — Le Figaro
In southern France, law enforcement officials have arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of deliberately setting forest fires.
The suspect was caught in the act of committing another crime.
Investigators have charged the suspect with at least four incidents that led to large-scale fires, and the case has already been referred to court.
The incident occurred late last week in the French department of Gironde. Local police arrested the suspect on May 29 just as he was attempting to start a new fire in a forested area.
Louis Rachiel, the prosecutor for the city of Libourne, officially confirmed this information and noted that the young man’s actions posed a direct threat to the environment and local residents.
Investigators determined that the detainee was involved in a series of similar offenses that occurred earlier. In particular, the young man is reasonably suspected of causing three other forest fires near the town of Renjac.
According to law enforcement agencies, these arson incidents were recorded between March 27 and April 19 of this year.
