A suspect in a series of forest fires has been arrested in France
French law enforcement officials have detained a 23-year-old man suspected of involvement in several cases of arson targeting vegetation, which caused forest fires in the south of the country.
These fires occurred between July 19 and 24 near the towns of Brignoles, Cabasse, and Vén-sur-Carami in the Var department—one of the regions of France most affected by wildfires.
The suspect has already been formally charged and remains in custody. CCTV footage has become one of the key pieces of evidence in the case.
As part of the investigation, authorities also plan to conduct a psychiatric evaluation of the suspect.

More than 300,000 people have been evacuated in France and Spain due to massive wildfires that have engulfed regions of Southern Europe. In southwestern France, in the Gironde region, more than 220,000 residents have left their homes. The fire there has spread across approximately 32,700 hectares.
As a reminder, French passengers who purchased train tickets to the region around Bordeaux will be able to exchange or refund them free of charge. This decision was made due to the large-scale wildfires that have complicated the situation in the area.
