France lifts quarantine on cruise ship following norovirus outbreak — The Guardian

In the French city of Bordeaux, strict quarantine measures have been lifted from an Ambassador Cruise Line ship following a norovirus outbreak on board.

The Guardian reports this.

Most passengers who are not showing symptoms of the illness have been allowed to disembark, while those infected remain in isolation.

The day before, more than 1,700 people were stranded on the ship due to concerns about a large-scale spread of the infection.

Among them were 1,233 passengers, mostly citizens of the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as 514 crew members.

The death of a 90-year-old passenger amid an active outbreak of gastroenteritis prompted the introduction of these strict containment measures.

The city’s medical services immediately began checking the health of everyone on board to prevent the virus from spreading in the city.

Representatives of Ambassador Cruise Line released official data on the number of sick passengers while the ship was docked.

According to their statement, 48 passengers and one crew member currently have “active cases of gastrointestinal illness” requiring medical supervision.

After conducting a detailed epidemiological analysis, local authorities revised their initial decision to completely quarantine the ship.

Passengers without symptoms were allowed to continue their journey or visit the city, but those infected were ordered to strictly remain in their cabins.

We also reported: Among the crew members of the MV Hondius, where a hantavirus outbreak was recorded, are five Ukrainian citizens. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that no signs of a deterioration in their health have been detected so far.

The disease on board the MV Hondius, owned by the Dutch company Oceanwide Expeditions, which has claimed the lives of three passengers, may have been introduced by Argentine rats or mice.
