26 participants complete digital skills training in Ghana
In Accra, Ghana, 26 young people completed training in the first cohort of the Digital Skills Project, organized by Plan International Ghana with support from Nokia. The program consisted of 12 weeks of intensive training and a one-month capstone project, during which participants applied digital skills to solve problems in their communities.
Among the graduates were 14 women and 12 men. At the ceremony, they presented their capstone projects, which received cash awards for further development and scaling, MyJoyOnline reports.
Minister’s statement
Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, stated that developing digital skills is an important component of the country’s transformation. According to him, the success of the digital economy depends not only on investment in infrastructure but also on training specialists capable of solving problems, creating jobs and fostering innovation.

The minister noted that every program participant developed a working capstone project to address a specific community problem. He also stressed the need to involve women and girls in the technology sector, urging the female graduates to pursue software engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data science and technology entrepreneurship.
One Million Coders program
George also mentioned the government’s One Million Coders program, which aims to provide practical digital skills to one million Ghanaian citizens. According to him, as of August 2026, 141,954 learners had enrolled in it, with the greatest demand for courses in cybersecurity, data analytics and artificial intelligence.
According to the minister, the Ghanaian government signed memorandums of understanding with 12 universities to integrate One Million Coders courses into curricula for first-year students. Acting Director of Plan International Ghana Frederick Teye Nobi stated that the project is intended to promote youth employment and their participation in the digital economy.
