Nigeria intercepts Colorado shipments from the United Kingdom
Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it intercepted two shipments from the United Kingdom containing the drug Colorado in Lagos, and also seized the substance concealed in music speakers. As Premium Times Nigeria reports, several suspects were detained in connection with the operations.
Seizure at the airport
According to the NDLEA, agency officers intercepted luggage containing 27 packages of Colorado with a total weight of 32.20 kg in the import cargo area of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The agency said it detained real estate agent Abidin Jide Salami on Wednesday when he arrived to collect the luggage.
The NDLEA claims that Salami provided a secret code to retrieve the shipment, which his brother in the United Kingdom allegedly sent him. In another operation, law enforcement officers detained 44-year-old Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri after identifying the recipient of a 12.25 kg Colorado shipment from the United Kingdom. According to the agency, Kadiri told investigators that the parcel had been sent by his brother.

Colorado in a music speaker
The NDLEA Directorate of Operations and General Investigation also found three packages of Colorado in a music speaker at a bus station in the Maza-Maza area of Lagos. According to the agency, the cargo was to be delivered to Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire and then to Liberia.
During a controlled operation at a nearby food establishment, 41-year-old travel agent Ifeanyi Obed Augustine and 46-year-old Obasi Ugochukwu, whom the NDLEA calls the owner of the shipment, were detained. Separately, Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry was detained at the Iddo bus station on Friday: according to the agency, he was attempting to send 2.1 kg of Colorado to Kano.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa thanked the officers involved in the operations and called for continued efforts to counter illegal drug trafficking routes through airports, seaports, land borders and the country’s interior areas.
