In Ghana, Domelevo backs probe into alleged payment of 70,000 cedis
In Ghana, former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo supported the decision by the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate allegations of a possible payment of 70,000 Ghanaian cedis related to the vetting of nominees for ministerial positions and Supreme Court judgeships. He said the circumstances of the case must be independently verified to establish the truth.
Verification of the document and signature
As MyJoyOnline reports, Domelevo noted that such allegations had surfaced repeatedly. In his view, they should not be dismissed solely because Patricia Appiagyei, Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament and MP for Asokwa, denied them.
Appiagyei denied receiving or discussing any money in connection with the vetting procedure. She also called a memorandum referring to an alleged payment of 70,000 Ghanaian cedis fake.

Domelevo said the investigation should establish whether the disputed memorandum is genuine and whether the signature attributed to the MP is authentic. Speaking on Channel One TV on September 5, he called for a forensic examination of the document to determine whether Appiagyei authored it or whether her signature was forged.
Questions about payments to MPs
The former Auditor-General also questioned the appropriateness of payments to MPs by the presidential administration after their participation in the parliamentary vetting of nominees. In his view, payments for attending sittings, if due to members of Parliament, should be provided for in Parliament's own budget rather than in the budget of another state institution.
Domelevo believes that the Office of the Special Prosecutor's investigation should clarify the conflicting statements and establish the facts regarding the document and the alleged payment.
