In Ghana, GFF launches sanitation education ahead of World Cleanup Day — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana, the social enterprise GF Foundation (GFF) has launched a sanitation education campaign in communities in the Greater Accra Region ahead of World Cleanup Day, which will take place on September 20. As MyJoyOnline reports, the initiative is intended to promote safe waste handling, personal hygiene, and environmental cleanliness to prevent diseases.
Training in hygiene and waste management
The foundation plans to educate residents about proper handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, bathing, and respiratory etiquette, including covering coughs. Participants will also be taught the rules for using toilets and pit latrines, as well as the safe handling of solid waste and wastewater.
Head of community environmental research Haggard Kwao said that the organization intends to promote the ideas of environmental sanitation and purposefully protect the environment. She called on Ghanaian residents to join the large-scale cleanup.

Cleanup in Nungua
The event will begin at 7:00 a.m. in Nungua, where volunteers will clear drainage ditches of silt and rubbish along the route from Nungua Market to Nungua Police Station. Organizers also plan to extend the cleanup to neighboring communities.
World Cleanup Day takes place annually on September 20 and brings together millions of volunteers in more than 190 countries to address the global solid-waste crisis.
