Newsfile in Ghana to discuss student placement and ECG operations
In Ghana, JoyNews' Newsfile programme will hold a four-hour broadcast on Saturday, 12 September, on student placement in senior high schools, the proposed operational direction of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the management of state-owned enterprises. The edition will be hosted by Samson Lardy Anyenini, MyJoyOnline reports.
Student placement in senior high schools
One of the topics will be the admission process for Senior High School. Reports indicate that around 55,000 students were not included in the placement system. The programme will examine the reasons for this situation and the capacity of Ghana's secondary education system to accommodate a growing number of students.
Participants in the broadcast are also expected to discuss whether the difficulties are a temporary disruption or evidence of deeper problems in the admission mechanism, as well as their implications for students and their families.

ECG and state-owned enterprises
Newsfile will also focus on the discussion surrounding ECG's proposed operational direction. The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has threatened to take action, while concerns raised by the Public Utilities Workers' Union (PUWU) about the World Bank's role are to be considered on air. Topics include the possible impact of the proposed approach on jobs, state ownership and the efficiency of electricity distribution.
The dispute surrounding Ghana's Corporate Restructuring and State-Owned Enterprises Committee will be discussed separately. The government rejected the reported figure of 54%, while the International Monetary Fund expressed concern about the politicisation of state-owned enterprises. The broadcast will run from 8:00 to 12:00 on JoyNews, Joy 99.7 FM, Luv 99.5 FM and the programme's digital platforms.
