In Ghana, Techiman municipal chief ordered to move into official residence by December
Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister in Ghana, has instructed the current Techiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to move into the official residence by the end of December. The building has not been used since 2017, despite reports of significant government spending on its renovation, MyJoyOnline reports.
Inspection of the residence
Owusu Antwi inspected the residence during a tour of state project sites in the Techiman Municipality. He expressed concern that the premises intended as the official residence of the president's representative in the municipality have remained unoccupied for nearly ten years.
According to the minister, previous municipal chiefs had lived outside the official residence since 2017. Renovation work was cited as the reason for the building's prolonged non-use.

Accommodation costs
The minister said that officials living outside the official residence created additional risks for them and caused avoidable expenses for the municipal assembly and the state. For several years, municipal chiefs had used private accommodation or hotels, according to the outlet, with the related costs covered by the municipal assembly.
Owusu Antwi called it unacceptable to continue funding officials' accommodation when an official residence is available. He also noted that, despite renovation work, the building allegedly already shows signs of deterioration. The minister warned that continued vacancy could lead to further decay and increase the cost of future repairs. He said he would return in December to verify compliance with the instruction.
