In Ghana, Precious Semevoh wins award for climate reporting — MyJoyOnline
JoyNews correspondent in the Bono Region, Precious Semevoh, won an award for the best coverage of climate change and the green transition at the fourth Ghana Journalists Association regional awards in Sunyani, Ghana. As reported by MyJoyOnline, the ceremony took place on September 19, 2026, at the Sweet Touch Hotel.
Award for clean energy reporting
Semevoh was recognized for a report on clean energy solutions for household and industrial use. The report emphasized the need for environmentally sustainable energy alternatives to reduce environmental damage, combat deforestation, and protect Ghana's forest areas.
The regional journalists' association presented awards for work published or broadcast in 2025. Semevoh received a certificate, a commemorative award, and an iTel tablet. The competition category was sponsored by ActionAid Ghana.
Other laureates
Lawrence Yeboah Gyan of Wisdom FM was named Journalist of the Year for 2025 for his work on children's rights protection, healthcare, and medical assistance. Other winners included Biya Mukusah Ali of Daily Graphic, who received awards in the agroecology and agribusiness and tourism categories in print media; Emmanuel Kwadwo Gyan of Sky FM for the best radio documentary; and Claude Kumi Abisa of TV3 in the tourism category in electronic media.

Awards also went to Daniel Bruce Dzirasa of Ghanaian Times in the development and extractive industry category, independent journalist Edward Adjei-Frimpong in business and finance, and Michael Sarpong-Mfoum of Citi TV for education reporting. Samuel Kumi of Service Radio was named best morning show host, while Osei Kwadwo Laar of the same radio station received the award for best Akan-language news presenter.
Special awards for contributions to journalism in the region were presented to Dr. Leonard Victor Amengor, Charles Kumson, ActionAid Ghana, Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation, the Bank of Ghana, and Nsoatreman Community Bank. Jasmine Akwaboa, the only woman among the participants in the competition categories, also received a special award. A posthumous award was dedicated to the late Francis Owusu Ansah.
Calls for responsible journalism
National Democratic Congress Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia urged journalists to document Ghana's development: to track government promises, allocated resources, project implementation, and their impact on people's lives. Bono Regional GJA Chair Regina Benneh Siaw expressed concern over illegal mining in the Bono Region, known in Ghana as galamsey. She warned that river pollution, depletion of forest reserves, and destruction of farmland could have serious consequences for future generations.
The fourth Bono Regional GJA Awards ceremony was held under the theme: “Ethics, Integrity and Impactful Journalism: Catalysts for Societal Transformation.”
