Libyan committee discusses election agreement in Tunisia — Anadolu Agency
A Libyan committee in Tunisia discussed the implementation of an agreement intended to pave the way for nationwide elections in Libya. The meeting in Tunisia was attended by four representatives each from the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity and the General Command from eastern Libya.
The meeting was chaired by UN Special Representative for Libya Hanna Tetteh. Committee members reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the agreement and advancing toward elections that would meet Libyans' aspirations for stability and prosperity under unified and legitimate institutions. This was reported by Anadolu Agency, citing the UN Support Mission in Libya.
Election agreement
The 4+4 committee signed the agreement on August 30 at the UN mission headquarters in Tripoli. The document provides for elections to be held within 24 months.

At the meeting, participants reviewed public positions on the agreement, including support from the UN Security Council and Libya's House of Representatives, based in Benghazi. The parties also agreed to continue consultations with other Libyan parties in order to broaden support for the arrangement.
Further consultations
According to the UN mission, this was the ninth meeting of the smaller dialogue committee and the first since the signing of an agreement on restructuring the national electoral commission and amending electoral legislation. The next meeting is scheduled for the first week of October.
UN-mediated talks have been ongoing since April. They are aimed at overcoming the political deadlock, advancing the electoral process and unifying the executive authority. Last Monday, the House of Representatives unanimously approved the agreement, while the High State Council has not yet announced an official position, and its head, Mohammed Takala, rejected the arrangement.
