In Ghana, lecturer assesses military engineers’ ability to work on Accra–Kumasi Expressway
In Ghana, Bernard Tutu-Boahene, a lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, said that the 48th Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces can complete the assigned work on the Accra–Kumasi Expressway on time, provided it receives adequate resources.
The regiment was involved in the project
President John Mahama decided to involve the 48th Engineer Regiment as one of the project’s main subcontractors. Tutu-Boahene, who teaches political marketing, expressed confidence in the unit’s capabilities, citing its previous work at the site.

According to MyJoyOnline, the regiment cleared the project right-of-way in 19 weeks, one week ahead of the established 20-week deadline. The lecturer noted that this result demonstrates the unit’s ability to work even with limited resources.
Necessary investments
At the same time, Tutu-Boahene stressed that the regiment needs adequate investment and support to carry out larger-scale tasks. In his view, strengthening the unit’s capabilities could help Ghana reduce construction costs. He also suggested that, if provided with the necessary resources, the regiment could take part in other major projects.
