Woman in Ghana sentenced to seven years for human trafficking
A court in Accra, Ghana, sentenced 36-year-old Gift Chinyere Aminu to seven years in prison with hard labor for human trafficking and prostitution. The woman, also known as Joy, pleaded not guilty, but the court found her guilty after hearing the case, MyJoyOnline reports. The court also ordered her to pay compensation to the victims.
Case circumstances
As Assistant Superintendent of Police Issa Achiburi told the court, the complainant in the case was TenkGod Iheme, a Nigerian living in Accra. According to the prosecution, Jennifer Eze, also known as Lovina, called Iheme and said that a Nigerian woman had brought her and Aissa Mohammed, known as Gold, from Togo to Ghana and forced them into prostitution. Eze also stated that they were brutally beaten when they did not engage in prostitution.
Achiburi said that Aminu lived in the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Railways area with two Nigerian women, Jennifer and Blessing. According to the source, the two women were not detained. On October 31, 2025, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department received the case materials from the Kaneshie Police.

Prosecution's version
According to the prosecutor, during questioning Aminu confirmed that she knew both victims. She told police that she lived and worked in the Refinery area of Lomé, Togo, where she engaged in prostitution. According to her, Jennifer and Blessing handed Eze and Mohammed over to her so that she would involve them in prostitution, control them, and collect money to later pass on to the two women.
The prosecution also alleged that Aminu took the victims to a shrine and forced them to take an oath that if they fled with her money, they would allegedly go mad. After a police operation in Togo, she allegedly moved with the victims to Ghana, where she continued forcing them into prostitution. The investigation, Achiburi said, also established that Aminu received 300,000 Nigerian naira from Mohammed and 250,000 naira from Eze.
