Trial begins in Hong Kong over Abby Choi murder — TimesLIVE
A trial has begun in Hong Kong over the murder of 28-year-old socialite Abby Choi. Her ex-husband Alex Kwong, his father Kwong Kau and brother Anthony Kwong are accused of murdering Choi in February 2023.
Charges and possible punishment
As TimesLIVE reports, all three defendants could receive life imprisonment if convicted of murder. They have also been charged with preventing the lawful burial of a body.
Dozens of people were waiting outside the courthouse when the hearing began. A broadcast was arranged for those who remained outside. All three defendants wore masks and, according to the outlet, behaved calmly. Kwong Kau wore a white T-shirt, while his sons wore suits.

Case circumstances
Hong Kong police said in 2023 that they had found parts of Choi's body at a residence in a village in the Tai Po district, located on the outskirts of the city. Investigators later searched for evidence at a landfill.
Choi had two children with Alex Kwong. After their divorce, she married for a second time and had two younger children with her second husband. On social media, she shared photographs from photo shoots and fashion shows, and a few days before her death, she reported attending a Dior show during Paris Fashion Week.
The jury trial is expected to last 45 days. The prosecution is due to present its case later.
