Over 150 residents evacuated after candle sparks fire in Hong Kong flat

A fire broke out in a Hong Kong apartment after a candle was left burning by the occupant who fell asleep without extinguishing it. The blaze caused heavy smoke, prompting neighbors to call firefighters who broke down the door and rescued the woman inside. Over 150 residents of the building were evacuated during firefighting efforts, highlighting ongoing concerns about fire safety in the city.

The fire ignited items inside the flat, generating thick smoke. Emergency responders acted swiftly to evacuate the residents and contain the fire. Earlier in November, the Wang Fuk Court residential complex experienced the deadliest fire in Hong Kong’s history, killing at least 161 people and displacing more than 4,600. This devastating event led to strengthened safety measures across the city.

This incident reinforces the critical importance of fire safety precautions when using open flames in homes. Authorities are expected to continue tightening regulations and prevention efforts to avert similar tragedies in the future.
