F-4 fighter jet crashes during airshow near Athens, Greece

An F-4 Phantom fighter jet crashed during an airshow at Tanagra Airport near Athens, Greece, on Saturday. YLE News reported this, citing Greek public broadcaster ERT.

Smoke and explosion

ERT footage shows a column of black smoke rising several hundred metres from the airshow spectators. According to the broadcaster, thousands of people attended the event.

An ERT correspondent reported that the aircraft suddenly began losing altitude. An explosion occurred after the fighter jet crashed.
