Pork and egg prices rise to record levels in Japan
In Japan, the average retail price of pork loin reached 293 yen per 100 grams in September — the highest figure since this monitoring began in August 2003. The country’s Ministry of Agriculture reported this, The Japan Times writes.

Demand for domestically produced pork is rising amid higher prices for imported products. This is due to the weakening yen and growing global demand for pork.
The ministry conducts a monthly price survey in 470 stores: 10 retail outlets in each of Japan’s 47 prefectures. The latest survey was conducted from September 7 to 9.

Egg prices
The average price of a pack of 10 eggs in the latest reporting month was 309 yen. It matched the record level registered in March, May and June, according to ministry data released on Tuesday.
The rise in egg prices is attributed to the prolonged effects of the spread of avian influenza last year, as well as the start of sales by fast-food chains of seasonal products containing eggs.
