A state of emergency was declared in the Yaroslavl Region of the Russian Federation following explosions at a pyrotechnics factory

In Russia's Yaroslavl Region, a regional-level state of emergency was declared following a massive explosion and fire at a pyrotechnics manufacturing plant. The state of emergency was declared in the Pereslavl-Zalessky District, where the fire broke out at the plant in the village of Kubrinsk.

According to him, about 200 people and 23 pieces of equipment are working at the scene, and an emergency response headquarters has been set up.

According to preliminary data, at least 14 people were killed as a result of the explosion and fire. Initially, Governor Mikhail Yevraev reported 10 fatalities and noted that the search for several more people was ongoing. Later, Russian emergency services reported a higher death toll.

According to Russian authorities, one victim was hospitalized with leg injuries.

The explosion also damaged nine apartment buildings located near the factory.

After the explosion, the village of Kubrinsk was left without power. According to Yevraev, generators are being delivered to the village to restore the operation of public facilities.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation stated that a fire broke out on the premises of the pyrotechnics production facility. A criminal investigation has been opened into the incident under Part 3 of Article 217 of the Russian Criminal Code—violation of industrial safety requirements at hazardous production facilities, resulting in the negligent death of two or more people.

According to the Russian Telegram channel Shot, a short circuit may have been the preliminary cause of the emergency.

The explosion occurred at the company “Salut Pivden” LLC, registered in Mineralnye Vody. The fire broke out around 4:00 p.m., and it was extinguished approximately two hours later. Even an airplane was deployed to help put out the fire.

After extinguishing the open flames, rescue workers are dousing the premises to prevent the fire from reigniting.

September 30 was declared a day of mourning for the victims in the Yaroslavl region.

Two years ago, an unscheduled inspection was conducted at the “Salut Pivden” plant. At that time, the plant received a warning for violations related to the operation and maintenance of electrical equipment.

According to Mash, a fire near the plant had already occurred in 2022. At that time, according to local residents, plant employees were setting off fireworks in a field, which subsequently ignited the peat.

Local residents claimed that the fire destroyed about 25 hectares of land at that time.

Russian investigators are currently determining the full circumstances of the explosion and fire at the plant.
