Helicopter crashes in Yosemite, killing two — Jerusalem Post
A Super Puma helicopter crashed while fighting a fire in Yosemite National Park in California, United States. Two pilots were killed, the Jerusalem Post reports.
Crash during water drop
The helicopter crashed on Sunday afternoon as the pilots were dropping water on the Dome Fire. According to Connie Lau, a spokesperson for the California team coordinating the fire response, the helicopter went down southeast of Ostrander Lake.
One of those killed was Greg King, who worked for the contractor company Precision. The name of the second pilot was not released because his family was still being notified of his death, the Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection said.

Investigation into the causes
The causes of the crash are being investigated by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
Following this accident, the number of helicopter pilots killed this year in aviation crashes while fighting wildfires in Colorado, Utah and California rose to five. According to the federal agency Wildland Fire Lessons Learned, at least 18 people have been killed while fighting fires in the United States since the start of 2026. This exceeds the average annual figure of 17 deaths over recent decades cited by the National Interagency Fire Center.
