Unknown attacker pours acid on 35-year-old woman in Karachi — Dawn
An unknown attacker poured acid on a 35-year-old woman in the Upper Gizri area of the Pakistani city of Karachi. She sustained burns to her face, neck and abdomen, Dawn reported, citing police.
Victim taken to hospital
According to law enforcement officials, the attack occurred near the Nasir filtration plant in Upper Gizri, within the jurisdiction of the Clifton police station. The woman was taken by an Edhi charity ambulance to the burns centre at Karachi Civil Hospital.
Police surgeon Summaya Syed told Dawn that the victim sustained burns to more than 15% of her face, neck and abdomen. South District Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Asad Raza said the woman worked at one of the houses in Clifton and was returning home to Upper Gizri when she was attacked by an unidentified suspect.

Police establish motive
Law enforcement officers are trying to obtain CCTV footage to identify the possible attacker and establish the motive for the assault. Raza also said that the victim's husband lives in Punjab province with another wife, while her three sons live there with their father.
Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar demanded an immediate detailed report from the South District senior superintendent of police. He instructed police to use all available resources to detain the suspect, conduct a comprehensive investigation, establish the motive for the attack, and provide the victim and her family with medical, legal and administrative assistance.
Lanjar stated the need for a zero-tolerance policy toward serious crimes, including acid attacks. He also instructed the head of South District police to personally oversee the investigation and keep him informed of the case's progress.
