Doctor, wife and three daughters found dead in Karachi — Dawn
In Karachi, Pakistan, the bodies of 45-year-old doctor Umer, his 35-year-old wife Mehwish and their three underage daughters were found in an apartment in a multi-storey building. Dawn reports on the incident in the Ahsanabad area of Scheme-33.
Police opened the apartment
Police arrived at the scene after receiving a report about an unpleasant smell spreading from the apartment. Law enforcement officers established that the door was locked from the inside, opened it and found five bodies in one room.
The bodies were found on the seventh floor of a high-rise building. According to senior police officer Zubair Nazir Sheikh, they may have been in the apartment for about three days and were in an advanced state of decomposition.
Police named only one of the daughters, 13-year-old Zainab. The other two girls were between two and four years old. The bodies were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for forensic examination.

The cause of death is being determined
Police doctor Summaya Saeed said there were no visible signs of injuries on the bodies. The cause of death will be determined after chemical analysis; specialists also collected samples for DNA analysis.
Sheikh stressed that it was premature at this stage to draw conclusions about the exact cause of death. Forensic experts were called to the scene to collect evidence, while investigators are obtaining CCTV footage. They also intend to question the management of the hospital where Umer worked and the neighbours.
According to police, the doctor had recently learned that he had cancer. Neighbours also told law enforcement officers about his difficult financial situation, but this information is still being verified. The family had lived in the apartment since 2024; investigators contacted the doctor's brother in Lahore and asked his father-in-law, who lived in Punjab, to collect the bodies.
