A plant for the assembly and repair of Leopard 2A8 tanks will be built in Kaunas
The construction company YIT Lietuva will build a plant in Kaunas for the assembly and repair of Leopard 2A8 tanks. The cost of the project, commissioned by Lithuania Defense Services, will be approximately 30 million euros, according to “European Truth,” citing YIT.
The agreement calls for the construction of the facility in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone. YIT Lietuva’s responsibilities will include design and construction work. Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2026 and be completed in November 2027.

The new complex will be located on a site covering nearly 10 hectares. It will consist of a main production building and auxiliary facilities.
Lithuania Defence Services is a joint venture founded in Lithuania in 2022 by the German arms manufacturers Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. Kęstutis Vanagas, CEO of YIT Lietuva, stated that the project will help strengthen Lithuania’s defense infrastructure and ensure the operational readiness of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
