One person killed in clashes at Kenyan deputy president’s event

One person was killed in Kenya during clashes at a public event held by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in the city of Embu. Violence erupted after local young people were not allowed to enter the stadium where a UDA party event was taking place. Several people were injured, and six cars were set on fire, according to an editorial by Nation Kenya.

Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Some young people responded by throwing stones at police officers and into the stadium grounds. The unrest later spread to nearby areas and affected people going about their daily activities.

Attack on opposition convoy

Another incident occurred in the city of Garissa, where the convoy of Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was pelted with stones. Several vehicles were also damaged during his trip to the northeastern region.

Musyoka and his associates described the attack as an attempt to intimidate the opposition through violence. They also said that some influential individuals had allegedly organized the disruption of their visit.

The incidents occurred amid increased activity by political parties ahead of the general elections scheduled for August 10, 2027. Nation Kenya’s editorial board called on police to investigate the attacks, identify those involved, and hold them accountable.
