China launches application process for child subsidies in 2026
China has begun accepting applications for child subsidies for the year 2026. The program offers payments of 3,600 yuan (approximately $513) annually for each child under three years old. Applications can be submitted through online platforms including Alipay and WeChat.

The program was launched in July 2025 and has already covered over 24 million families. Subsidy payments used last year amounted to about 72 billion yuan, representing 80% of the total government budget allocated for this purpose.
This initiative is part of Beijing’s efforts to create more favorable conditions for childbirth and child-rearing amid the country’s demographic decline.
