Orbán's team has warned of a possible government takeover by Magyar
Sources close to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán suggest that Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party, may be planning an attempt to storm the government building.
These statements come amid a planned rally by his supporters on the evening of the April 12 election.
Hungarian government spokesperson Zoltán Kovács wrote about this on Facebook.
In particular, Kovács noted that Magyar did not choose the location for his event by chance, as it is located “just a few minutes’ walk” from the government building.
"Péter Magyar is holding his election night party on Bátthyány Square, directly across from the parliament building—just a few minutes’ walk from ‘Karmelita.’ It’s a short enough walk to turn a waiting crowd into an active one," he wrote.
In Hungary, the name “Carmelita” is used to refer to the prime minister’s workplace, as his office is located in the building of a former Carmelite monastery in Buda.
Kovács believes that if the election results are unfavorable for “Tisza,” “the location allows for rapid mobilization in a politically sensitive area.”
"In a tense situation, proximity can easily lead to escalation," he added.
Fico expressedhis support for Orbán on the eve of the election.
Orbán warned of the danger to Hungaryin the event of his defeat in the elections.
