American actor and director Clint Eastwood, who turned 96 on May 31, has retired from the film industry.
During a conversation, Kyle Eastwood recalled working with his father and noted that he is no longer working on new projects.
“I have many fond memories of working with him. He’s retired now; he’s 95,” Kyle Eastwood said shortly before his father’s birthday.
He also added: “I was very lucky to work with him on many films. It was a wonderful experience for me.”
Clint Eastwood himself has not made any official statements about ending his career, but his son’s words were the first public confirmation that the director and actor no longer plans to work in film.
Eastwood’s career began in the mid-1950s. He gained worldwide recognition in the 1960s thanks to his collaboration with director Sergio Leone. The actor starred in the Westerns *A Fistful of Dollars* (1964), “For a Few Dollars More” (1965), and “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” (1966), which later became known collectively as “The Dollar Trilogy.”
In the following decades, Eastwood became one of Hollywood’s most famous actors. He gained particular fame for his role as Detective Harry Callahan in the films “Dirty Harry” (1971), “Magnum P.I.” (1973), “The Fugitive” (1976), “Sudden Impact” (1983), and “Dead Pool” (1988).
His other notable acting roles include “Escape from Alcatraz,” “Unforgiven,” “Million Dollar Baby,” and “Gran Torino.”
Eastwood began his directing career in 1971 with the psychological thriller “Play Me Before You Die.” He subsequently regularly combined his roles as director and actor. Among his most famous films are “The Rookie,” “Unforgiven,” “Mystic River,” “Million Dollar Baby,” “Unbroken,” “American Sniper,” “Sully,” and “Richard Jewell.”
Over the course of more than 70 years in film, Eastwood has appeared in more than 70 films and directed over 40 feature-length films. During this time, he has received four Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and two Directors Guild of America Awards.
Eastwood won two Oscars as a director—for the films “Unforgiven” and “Million Dollar Baby.” He has also been honored with numerous awards. In 1998, he received an honorary César Award; in 2000, an honorary Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and in 2008, the Honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
Under Eastwood’s direction, five actors have won Oscars for their roles. Gene Hackman was honored for his work in the film “Unforgiven,” Sean Penn and Tim Robbins for “Mystic River,” and Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman for “Million Dollar Baby.”
If Kyle Eastwood’s words are true, Clint Eastwood’s final directorial effort was the courtroom drama “Juror No. 2,” which was released in 2024. The last film in which he appeared as an actor was 2021’s “Men’s Tears.” Eastwood also directed this film himself.
His son, musician and composer Kyle Eastwood, revealed this in an interview with the French TV channel France 3, as reported by Euronews.
