War insurance has gone on sale in the Baltic states
Swedish bank Swedbank has expanded its home insurance coverage for customers in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The additional coverage now includes compensation for losses resulting from war, armed conflicts, terrorist attacks, mass riots, and uprisings.
The insurance covers, in particular, damage to homes resulting from attacks by strike drones. The new terms took effect on August 6, and the additional protection is initially provided for six months.
However, the program has significant limitations. Payouts are not provided in the event of war between two or more nuclear powers from the list of the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom, and Russia. Damage caused by chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons, as well as cyber and electronic attacks, is also excluded.
Swedbank’s decision came amid concerns about a possible Russian attack on the Baltic states. Earlier, U.S. media reported on intelligence assessments regarding the possibility of a limited Russian attack on one of the NATO countries in the coming years.

Russia may have pressured the government of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to prevent the country from joining the Convention on the Establishment of an International Compensation Commission for Ukraine.
Russia stated that it has no intention of starting an armed conflict with NATO or attacking the Baltic states. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, who at the same time accused Western countries of allegedly preparing for war with Russia themselves.
